RELIEF WORK.
The view that the relife work programme which has been carried out in America during the past few years has created a burden which the country may never get rid of was expressed by Mr Norman Frazer, managing director of the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company, Ltd, Sydney, who returned after a trip abroad. “The relief work programme absorbed many millions of workers,” he said. “The effect has been to make them want to remain in Government employment. It has taken away the very essence of the American workman’s character, imagination, and progresive ambition.”
