CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

ANNUAL PRIZEGIVING. The annual tea, concert, and prizegiving of the Emmanuel Congregational Church Sunday school was held on Tuesday night. Tea was served at six o’clock, with a full attendance of children, and the concert and prizegiving took place later, when there was a large attendance of scholars and parents. In his address, Rev. Raymond Simpson said that the Sunday school had had a very successful year, and lie appealed for the hearty co-operation of the parents and urged them to set the children a good example by attending church regularly themselves. Mrs Sturge (wife of the present chairman of the Congregational Union of New Zealand) presented the prizes. Altogether some sixty prizes were distributed. A number of children secured 100 per cent, marks for good attendance and conduct during the year.

The arrangements for the concert were in tho capable hands of Mrs W. Lyons, and a very enjoyable programme was presented, as follows:—Pianoforte solo, Trevor Singh; recitation. Betty Simpson ; dialogue, scholars ; recitation, Isohel Stewart; song, Amlin Kelly ; recitation, Joan Seel; dialogue, Merle Elsmore and Enid Petrie j character song. Jim Kelly; recitation, Velma Singh; dialogue, Junior Bible Class girls; recitation, Enid Petrie; character duet. Betty Simpson and Patty Seel; recitation, Dawn Elsmore; dialogue, scholars; recitation, Daphne Page; song, Joan Seel and Isohel Stuart; recitation, Patty Seel; selections by the Minstrel Troupe.
