Messrs C. M. Duthie and K. A. Brownjohn, Union Airways pilots who had spent a month on a living holiday in Australia, returned to Palmerston North on Monday, and resumed their duties yesterday. Rev. J. R. Blanchard, minister of St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Wellington, returned from San Francisco yesterday after a three-month health "trip through Canada and the United States of America.
The council of the Otago University yesterday confirmed the nomination of Dr C. E. Hercus by the medical faculty as dean of the faculty as from March 1, 1937. Dr Hercus will till the vacancy caused by the retirement of Sir Lindo Ferguson. The Terrace End Progressive Association, at its meeting last evening, passed a resolution of condolence with its hon. secretary, Mr G. G. Priest, in the bereavement lie had suffered through the death of his brother, Mr Ralph Priest, at Timaru. Hon. D. H. Drummond, Minister of Education in New South Wales, passed through Wellington yesterday en route from San Francisco to Sydney. Ho attended the New Education Fellowship Conference in England and visited the Continent and the United States of America.
Following the meeting of the Manawatu County Council yesterday Cr. J. H. Perrett mentioned that the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber) had completed 31 years as a member of the council, and Mr A. K. Drew would next month complete 30 .years as county clerk. He suggested that recognition should be made of such lengthy service. The other councillors agreed, and arrangements to that end are to be put in train.
