PAHIATUA, Dec. 7. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council, to-night, the treasurer’s report was given as follows: — General receipts, to November 30, 1930, £3734 16s 6d; to November 30, 1935, £3057 8s 2d j general expenditure, to November 30, 1936, £4365 8s 4d; to November 30, 1935, £3751 3s Id; credit balances, to November 30, 1936, £692 5s 4d; to November 30, 1935, £385 15s Id. The consulting engineer, Mr Sladden (following a letter from the Public Works Office, classifying the main street of Pahintua as a State highway) has been advised to take the necessary steps so that reseating work on tho highway may be proceeded with providing that the whole of the maintenance and construction costs are to be borne by the main highways account as expenditure on a State highway. The final meeting of the year of the Pahiatua County Council was held on Saturday, when the chairman (Cr. A. W. Bisset) presided. There were also present Crs. T. Fouliy, F. H. Bolton, F. H. Thorne, F. V. Bryant, W. Lassen, H. R. Wliitta, and J. R. Nelson. Leave of absence was granted Cr. Hoggins. Accounts totalling £2454 17s 5d wore passed for payment. Mr F. M. Grogorie asked ior permission to carry out widening work on Pori Road, saying that the bridge was too narrow for cars to pass and that he could arrange for assistance for the work- Cr. Nelson stated that the piece of road was indeed dangerous, there being about a quarter of a mile of very light limestone rock hank. The chairman moved that the overseer and Cr. Nelson he leit to interview the settlers and report the next meeting of the -council. This was agreed to. 'Flic Mangatainoka Athletic Association sought permission to prohibit cars from parking within 50 yards of the Domain gate on its sports day.—The clerk was instructed to write the society and inform them that the road was a State highway now and they would have to refer the matter to the Main Highways Board. Cr. Bryant asked if the drain culvert had been put in for the Mangatainoka ground and the overseer intimated that this week would seethe work done. Mr B. Hay asked for a small culvert and drain at Ballanee to, be opened up and lowered some two feet in order to afford drainage facilities for liis land.— Cr. Horne stated that the road was very swampy on both sides and it was a sea of mud. It was left to the chairman and the overseer to look into the matter, with power to act. The Highways Board granted authority for £-1263 for the Napier-Weliing-ton road sealing job and £37 for the Maugaone bridge contract. The Department of Lands intimated that they could not entertain the council’s application to have the Makuri municipal reserve vested in the council for the purpose of a roadman’s cottage site; and stated that the council already had three sections in the Makuri township area. The matter was left ill the hands of the clerk to write again. A second letter from the Lands Department advised that the council’s desire to have a roadman’s cottage in Mangatainoka could not be acceded to unless the purpose of the reserve was changed.—Received. The treasurer’s report was read. Cr. Bisset, in closing the meeting, wished all present a very happy Christinas. Mr J. C. Carbines (secretary of the Bush Co-operative Herd Testing Association) lias issued the following averages for the month of November:—Eketahuna group: Cows, 2062; lb. milk, 937; test, 4.48; lb. fat, 42; highest herd average, 46 cows, 541 b fat; highest cow, 871 b fat. Woodville group: Cows, J 682; lb. milk, 913; test, 4.55; lb. fat, 42; highest herd average, cows 37, lb. fat 55; highest cow, 87lh fat. Pahiatua group: Cows, 434; lb. milk, 859; test, 4.63 ; lb. fat, 40; highest herd average, 57 cows, 46 lb fat; highest cow, 861 b fat. The association average for 4178 cows tested during November was 9141 b milk, 4.52 per cent, test, and 41.31 b fat.
