TE AKAKURA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, Dec. 8. A delightful surprise parly was tendered to Mrs J. Whittle by a number of her friemls on Saturday evening on the occasion of her 73rd birthday. The evening was spent in competitions, community singing, etc. Al supper time a main feature was the birthday cake, which was made by Mrs Whittle's daughter, Mrs Stanley. Mr Mindo, in ,a short speech, on behalf of the guests, extended to Mrs Whittle heartiest birthday greetings and wished her long life and much happiness. Mr J. J. Hume endorsed Mr Mindo's remarks and stated that now Mrs Whittle would soon bo taking up her residence at Waiuku, all wished her the very best of health and joy in her new home, and hoped she would always have happy recollections of residing in the district. Musical honours vv I o then rendered anu Mrs Whittle thanked Mr Mindo and Mr Iluine for their very kind wishes and everyone for their company. Miss M. Firth returned to her home this morning after a visit to the north. Mr Wilson, who arrived from Hastings on Thursday, is at present staying with his daughter, Mrs D. Johnston. Final arrangpments were made last week in connection with the Tennis Club's dance, which is being held tonight. As it is six years since the club held their first meeting, it \» hoped that this anniversary celebration will be a great success. It was decided to have no competitions at the dance.
