UNUSUAL PROCEDURE
DUNEDIN CITY COUNCIL. EMPLOYEES CO-OPTED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN. Dec. S. A proposal that a selected member of the employees of each municipal department attend the meetings of the City Council committees in an advisory capacity was adopted last evening on the Mayor's casting vote after vigorous opposition, in which Cr. Allen described the proposal as startling and dangerous. Cr. Begg asked could it be guaranteed that these workers' representatives would be bound down to the same secrecy in confidential matters as were the councillors. If they could not be so assured they might as well open the committee proceedings to the Press.
Cr. Silverstone stated that the proposal was the Labour policy. It was merely co-opting the services of their employees to mutual advantage, improving the C6prit de corps of the service.
