WOODVILLE COUNTY.

MEETING OE THE COUNCIL. Cr M. A. Grainger (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the Woodville County Council oil Friday. Others present were Councillors It. TMabey, Geo. Peebles, E. D. Cattanach, R. H. Morgan, J. Galloway and H. Sheffeld. The Dannevirke Borough Council advised that it had received a letter from the Dannevirke Airport Association soliciting support for a meeting of local body representatives to decide what concerted action should be taken about the airport, and forwarded a copy of a remit, which is intended foi consideration at next year’s municipal conference. The letter stated Dannevirke was willing to appoint representatives and to convene a meeting and asked for M’oodville’s views on the matter. A lengthy letter referring to the same matter was read from the Dannevirke Airport Association. It was decided that Cr. Cattanach represent the council in the event ot the Dannevirke Borough Council convening the sugested conference ot local bodies. . The hoard’s representative on the No. 5 District Highways Council wrote asking for the views of county engineers regarding longitudinal planking on bridges on highways. Ine engineer indicated that the reply had been forwarded. The Transport Department forwarded a circular letter thanking local bodies for co-operation in the matter of speedlimits under by-laws. Mr 1). M. Brown (Kumeroa) wrote asking for permission" to lay a pipe across the road from a spring. Granted, subject to the engineer’s approval. Notification of the transfer of property from C. B. Morgan to H. B. Morgan was given effect to. The report submitted by the engineer (Mr W. J. Hawkes) stated, inter alia ■ Woodville-Palmerston North highway, No. 1: Surface repairs were attended to, minor slijxs removed and watertables cleaned. ’ Napier-Welling-ton ; Grading was done when and where necessary. Shoulders were graded and metalled. Surface repairs were attended. Bridge decking repairs were attended to. Silver poplars and other overhanging growth was cut hack. Various minor slips were removed. "Wood ville-Hopelands: ibis road was graded where necessary and metal repairs 'attended to. Culverts were cleaned out. "Woodville-" ainki: Grading" was done throughout anti metal repairs attended to. Stone groynes are being put in as piotection for the Raparapawai stream bridge and roadway. Side drains are being cleaned. “Freelands Highway. This road was graded and metal repairs attended to where necessary. Bridge approaches were repaired. Side drains were cleaned and culverts attended to. The engineer also dealt with work in the ridings. In reply to Cr Sheffeld the engineer said the repairs to Sniythe s bridge would be completed in about a week. The pay sheet, amounting to £751 us Od was passed for payment. Before the meeting closed the chairman remarked that as the council would not again meet this year lie would take the opportunity of extending Christmas and New ’tear greetings to the councillors, the stall and the Press. Cr Galloway reciprocated on Deliall of the councillors and Cr Sheffeld congratulated the chairman on his appointment to the Hawke s Day Mortgagors’ and Lesses’ Rehabilitation Board.
