RETURN TO PARTY.
SIR WILLIAM JO WITT. LONDON, Nov. 26. The News-Chronicle reports that the executive of the National Labour Party is readmitting Sir William Jowitt. who was expelled in 1932 for supporting Mr J. Ramsay MacDonald. “Those who, like myself, have taken their stand as Radicals must now consider whether they ought not to render active support to the Socialist Party as the only party which is an effective instrument to carry through the reforms the country desires,” said Sir William Jowitt in a letter to Mr Ramsay MacDonald in June, 1929, when announcing his intention to join the Labour Party. He had been elected to the House of Commons as a Liberal member for Preston. He faced an election in his constituency and was returned by a majority of 6000.' When Mr MacDonald formed his National Government, however, Sir William, who had been Attorney-General from 1929 and who was knighted in that year, supported him and was mode AttorneyGeneral in the new Ministry. Ho decided not to contest Preston at the General Election, but stood instead for Combined English Universities and was defeated. Efforts to find another seat for him proved unsuccessful, and in 1932 be resigned from the Ministry.
