COMING-OF-AGE.
In the Tokomaru Hall, on November 24, a delightful party was given by Mr and Mrs Voss in honour of the coming-of-age of their only daughter, Vera. The hall and supper room had been decorated by friends and presented a charming picture. Paper streamers, toning from pale lemon to deep apricot, attached to a trellised centrepiece, were draped across the hall. Chinese lanterns and coloured balloons were suspended from the streamers, and the walls were decorated with native ferns.
Mrs Voss, accompanied hy her daughter, received her guests wearing a model frock of navy crepe-de-chine. The guest of honour wore a dainty frock of lemon georgette, with godets of tiny frills, toning from pale lemon to deep apricot; a circlet of flowers in the same shade adorned the waistline. About 200 guests -were present and a happy time was spent in dancing. Mr Wollerman, of Palmerston North, was toast-master and M.C., assisted by Mr A. Moody, of Tokomaru. A professional orchestra from Levin supplied excellent music, and Mrs Wollerman kindly played extras. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mrs L. Simpson and Mr H. Mason. Supper was served, during which Miss Voss cut the cake, which had been made and artistically decorated by her mother in shades to tone with the decorations. The chief toast was proposed by Mr D. Bush, who, in congratulating Miss Voss on attaining her majority, wished her every success in the future. The toast was accorded musical honours. Mr Keith Voss responded on behalf of his sister and also thanked the guests for the many beautiful gifts received. A golden key was presented to Miss Voss on behalf of her ’parents, and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
