GOLD IN RUSSIA.
LARGE OUTPUT LIKELY. South Africa is not to enjoy unchallenged supremacy in gold production. M. Serebrovsky, Director of the Soviet Gold Trust, claims that the Russian output for 1936 will be 10,000,000 ounces, and will exceed that of South Africa. He gives the 1935 output as 5,650.000 ounces, worth to-day £30,000,000. M. Czersky, Director of the Soviet Trade Agency in London, states that the greatest efforts are being made to speed up production. Privileges are granted to miners and prospectors which are enticing men of all sorts to seek gold.
