(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Nov. 25. Tho Ashhurst Town Hall was crowded when an elocutionary recital was given by the pupils of Miss Jean Stevenson, many of whom are local children. The items were many and varied, and the audience greatiy appreciated the children’s efforts. The programme comprised : —Musical monologue, ’’Yellow Dog,” Nola Trcrnewan; recitation, “Little Willie,” Daphne Morris; dialogue, “80-i’cep and Boy Blue,” Nola Oliver and Winnie Redmond; tap dance, Lorna Whiteman; character recitation, “Baby’s Ills,” Margaret Wade; recitation, “.Moby’s Practice Hour,” Nita Lawrence; action recitation, “The Sick Doll,” John Barclay; mandolin solo, Albert McLean; recitation,” “What’s in a name”, Margaret Brice; characlor recitation, “The Fairy Taylor,” Joan Tunnicliffo; recitation, “Peach Pie,” Maureen Kerrigan; character song, “Alice Blue Gown,” Lorna Whiteman; recitation, “Football Fans,” Betty Murphy; musical monologuo, “Masks and Faces,” Nola Nicol; humorous sketch, “The Aspiring Dishwasher,” Daisy Kee Sue; tap dance, Maureen Kerrigan; humorous sketch, “The Curate,” Hector McLean; humorous sketch, “’the Mouse,” l’at .Kerrigan; recitation, “Types at the Play,” Norma Gilbert and Betty Murphy; humorous sketch, “The Burglar,” Lynda Richards; play, “The Princess and the Players,” (Princess Elizabeth, Joan Barclay; Anne, Margaret Brice; Aunt Eleanor, Pat Kerrigan; Chief Player, Nola Nicol; other players, Betty Murphy, Maureen Kerrigan, Joan Tunnicliffo and Lorna Whiteman). Applause greeted Miss Stevenson when she caine forward to thank all present for their attendance, and genuine help to ntako the evening tho 6plcndid success it had been. Miss Joan Barclay presented .Miss Stevenson with a pretty bouquet on behalf of tho pupils. Later a dance was held. Tliorc was a fair attendance on the local range for practice shoot over tbe 300 and 500 ranges. Detailed scores:—S. J. Brookic, 34—33—67; AI. Hausmann, 31—33 —64; F. Bassett, 32—32—64; H. Scarlo, was unfortunate to suffer a severe fall, breaking one of his legs. After receiving first-aid at the school the young sufferer was taken to the Palmerston North Hospital by his father. All will wish him a si>ccdy recovery.
