HEALTH CAMPS
RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 25. “If the Health Department takes over the health camps there will be a tendency for them to become pagan, with no -religious instruction at all,” said Rev. John Chisholm in the Presbyterian General Assembly to-day. The assembly was discussing the church’s desire to ensure religious teaching in children’s health camps. Members were disinclined, apart from the fears of Government control, to admit the value of co-operation with other Church denominations. Mr Chisholm said he doubted whether cooperation with other denominations could be achieved without disputes. “If we start with the others we will have the same trouble as there is with the Bible in schools,” lie said. “There will only be quarrels and disputes.” He suggested that a recommendation of the youth committee proposing cooperation with other Churches be amended to suit this view, and this was done. It was decided to urge presbyteries to try _to secure adequate religious instruction for children in health camps.
