L. G. MORRIS TO RIDE AGAIN

CONFERENCE GRANTS LICENSE. The Marten trainer L. G. Morris was yesterday granted a jockey’s license at the monthly meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference executive committee and his reappearance in riding ranks again will be generally appreciated. The holding of dual licenses—trainer s> and jockey’s— is not tho most desirable of arrangements, but Morris is a man whose integrity and skill have won for him the confidence of racing authorities and racegoers alike, and he can be depended upon to discharge his obligations conscientiously. In these limes, when good horsemen in New Zealand are a mere handful, Morris’s decision to resume riding is doubly welcome, for not only is he an artist in the saddle, especially in riding a tight finish, but he buz always taken a keen interest in younger and inexperienced riders, and has often been able to be of great assistance to them. 'L. G. Morris was regarded by good judges as the finest apprentice rider ever seen in the Dominion, and when he graduated to tho rank of a jockey his skill and good judgment were always in evidence, lie rode with conspicuous sueeoss until he handed in his riding license last season in order to be able to devote more time to the horses he was training. Morris has ridden winners of practically every race of importance in New Zealand and as well has been successful on jumpers and oven trotters. In connection with the latter sport Morris can recall with some regret a fall from a trotter at Wanganui in 1927 when he broke an arm and thus missed a number of good rides on Commendation and other horses he had been engaged for at tho autumn meetings. Some of tho races won by Morris are: Auckland Cup.—Karo. A.R.C. Handicap.—Maxwell. G.N. Foal Stakes.—Lysander. G.N Derby.— Commendation. G.N. Champagne Stakes.—Lady Cavendish, Lysander. Royal Stakes. —Crenides. G.N. Guineas. —Crenides. Welcome Stakes. —Weary Willie.
