BOWLING.
AVELLINGTON VETERANS’ TOURNEY. The annual veterans’ bowling tournament of the AVellington Bowling Centro was held on Thursday in conjunction with the jubilee of the AA’ellington Bowling Club, and no fewer than 32 rinks participated, including a rink from the Feilding Club. The president (Air Gilbert) opened the proceedings by calling on Air John Roberts of Newtown, who claims the age of 92 years, to throw up the silver kitty, and then on Air James Dewe, of Feilding. the next oldest member, to put up the first bowl. Air Dewe made a perfect shot, his bowl running full on the kitty and hanging to it for a few inches. The Feilding rink was drawn against a champion rink from Thorndon. and these two rinks provided the closest game of the afternoon, Thorndon just getting home on the last head. Details are:—Thorndon: Rowe, Bull, Simpson, Watt (skip) 19 v. Feilding: Dewe, Barltrop, Duncan, Alills (skip) 18. The combined ages of the Thorndon rink were 287 years, against Feilding’s 309.
