YOUTH AND VIGOUR.

Y.M.C.A. CARNIVAL. The pageant, of youth and vigour, presented annually by the local Y.M.C.A., al ways attracts largo numbers who show the appreciation they undoubtedly feel by their warm and •enthusiastic comments. 'This year is no exception, and lovers of the spectacular in stage entertainment are already booking their seats for this popular carnival. For weeks pa,-t the 300 performers have been practising hard, and a. high standard of efficiency has been readied. Every item, both individual and mass, shows that finished touch which is always the hall-mark of good entertainment. From the rise of the curtain to the finale, the display goes without a pause. Flaancl-elad young men, looking tho picture of fitness, thrill anti amaze with their feats on horizontal bars, trapeze, and parallel bars; ladies and girls in their varied and colouiful dresses fascinate with their rhythmic movements and graceful dances; boys and girls combine in an effective and spectacular maze run; while tho younger boys and girls contribute their equally important share to the programme. A number _ of thrilling turns—unique in local productions —have been included in tho programme. Added to this attractive “feast’) are tho contributions of well-known artists. An orchestra of eight will contribute in no uncertain measure to tho merit of the

evening's entertainment with .bright, and popular numbers. f lhc display will be shown at the Opera House to-night, and on Saturday and Monday next. The curtain rises promptly at 7.45 p.m., while the theatre doors will be open at 7.15 p.m. Intending patrons arc advised to book at Messrs Gollinson and Cunninghanie s booking office. Sweets will be on sale.
