EDUCATION RESERVE.
CUBA STREET AREA. NEGOTIATIONS - FOR. PURCHASE. Advice was received by the Palmerston North City Council, last evening. from the Public Works Department that, it had taken over the Education Department reserve in Alain Street. The Public Works Department submitted a tentative lay-out of buildings, etc., showing on the site a proposed street of -51 feet in width running between Cuba and Alain Streets. It was decided that approval l>e given to the construction of the street. PUBLIC WORKS DEVELOPAIENT. It was learned by a “Standard” representative. to-day. that the Public Works Department is negotiating with the Education Department for the purchase of the area to provide extra space for the development of the Public Works Department yards, owing to the growing extent- of activities controlled from this centre.
It was stated that probably a garage. accommodation for plant, and workshops would he erected on the site, and use made of the remainder of the area for stacking yards.
