DAIRY MARKETING
DISCUSSIONS IN LONDON. MR DUNCAN NOT GOING. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The necessity for completing the supervision of the new Marketing Department and negotiations in connection with the zoning of the dairy industry will prevent Mr G. A. Duncan from accompanying the Minister of Marketing (Hon. W. Nash) to England.
The Minister stated to-dav that he desired Mr Duncan to go with him, but in view of the position in New Zealand he had reluctantly decided that it was more desirable for Dll' Duncan to remain in the Dominion to direct aftd supervise the inauguration of the marketing of butter and cheese under the guaranteed price plan. “There are matters of importance and urgency at present before the Marketing Department, and more are likely to arise within the next few months, and consideration of these would to some extent be prejudiced if the director of the department and myself were both absent from the Dominion,” said Mr Nash. “One of the problems is the supply of butter boxes and cheese crates. To a large extent the overseas marketing policy for this season, has been settled, and selling agents have been appointed, and I feel therefore that Mr Duncan can be more useful in New Zealand.” Mr Nash added: It is. however, probable that, when the marketing arrangements for next season have to be reviewed in the light of the results and experience of this season’s operations and of the future policy determined by the Government after my visit to the Old Country, it will then be desirable for Mr Duncan to visit England and study in detail the work of the sales division of the Marketing Department.
