MILE RACE AT PRINCETON. > PRINCETON, Oct. 3. J. E. Lovelock (New Zealand) failed in probably his last assault on the world mile record to-day, for Archie San Romani, young Kansas College student, won the event handily five yards ahead of the great New Zealand runner, and 15 yards in front of ,Gleir Cunningham. _ Lovelock was in the lead at the half-mile and appeared to be a sure winner, but suddenly San Romani spurted and gained a yard lead. Near the finish Lovelock made an attempt at his famous final sprint, hut . San Romani’s sprint was stronger, and lie gained four yards in the last 200 yards. His time was 4 minutes 9 seconds.
