ART EXHIBITION

The citizens of Palmerston North will see advertised in this issue of the “Standard” an appeal for the loan of treasures to be exhibited at, nn art exhibition. The committec set up to organise this exhibition, which will be held in November, report that keen interest is being' taken in the project throughout the district. The exhibition will be most comprehensive, and will include all branches of arts and antiques. Already the nucleus of a display is assured, and citizens will have the unique opportunity of viewing many valuable treasures that arc the property of residents of this district. A Maori section will bo included which will provide a wide field from the collector’s point of view. Among the treasures already promised on loan will be found a Roman vase 2000 years old, china plates 100 years old, cameos, books, samplers, old pictures and pictures by famous artists, miniatures, cloysonno vases, etchings, old jewellery, period costumes and many other fascinating treasures. The value of such an exhibition from an educational point of view cannot be computed and the stimulation of interest in art should be invaluable. The promoters make no apology for seeking the wholehearted support of citizens in this cultural effort and give an assurance that any treasure loaned to the exhibition will have the greatest care taken of it.
