EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” OCTOBER 1, 1906. __ The annual report of the Palmerston North Bowling Club showed that tho income for the year had amounted to £194. An Easter tournament had been bold and pairs competitions on Now Year’s Day and Anniversary Day. The construction of a dam at Tiritea had been commenced by borough workmen. The stream was being taken over the foundations by means of a wooden Hunting. Stringent comments on tho amount of work done by children attending school on dairy farms had been made by several school inspectors in a rcjKJrt presented to Parliament. Mr Taft, the Minister of War in the United States, had assumed possession of Cuba, and declared himself Governor, with the object of restoring peace and order. The Cuban flag was not to ho lowered. Lord Milner had been presented with an address, signed by 25,000 persons, expressing appreciation of his services to South Africa and the Empire.
