MUSICAL RECITAL.

PLUNKET BUILDING FUND. 1 . > In tbe Parish Hall, last evening, a ; recital organised by Alisses Nancy Haus- > mann and Marjorie Garrett was given 1 in aid of the Feilding Plunket Society’s > building fund. The programme, which consisted of pianoforte, violin, violoncello and vocal solos, was an enjoyablo one, and was listened to attentively ( by an appreciating audience. At a suitable juncture the Mayor j (Mr T. Collins) said that seven months ago the local branch of tbe Plunket - Society decided to collect funds for ’ the purpose of building -new rooms. ' In that short time the branch had 1 raised £SOO and that evening’s function was being conducted for the purpose of augmenting that amount. On : behalf of the president of the branch ■ (Mrs A. C. McCorkindale), the Mayor expressed his deepest thanks to Misses Hausmann and Garrett. He also thanki ed Alisses Morton and Taylor, of Pnli merston North, and Mr TV. R. Hill, i of "Wellington, artists who had contributed to the programme. 'Mr Collins also thanked those present for their attendance. With pianoforte solos by Aliss Garrett, “Air with Variations” (Handel), “Fantasia Impromptu” (Chopin), and “Sleigh Bells” (Tschaikow- ' ski), the programme opened, and the talent of the artiste well merited the warm appreciation of the audience, who were definite in their appeal for a recall, for which Miss Garrett chose “Waltz in A Flat” (Chopin). Followed “A Sonata for Violoncello in GJ Alinor” (Eccles), in four movements , rendered perfectly by Aliss Hausmann. In a strong rich tenor voice Air Hill sang “Where’er A'ou Walk” (Handel), and “Linden Lea” (Williams). Then came a bracket of violin solos by Aliss Afartin, “Afelody” (Dawes), “ATaJaguene” (Sarasate), “Polichinelle” (Kreisler). Aliss Taylor presided at the piano and the presentation of the bracket proved very popular with the audience, Miss Alartin rendering the numbers in a masterly manner. Aliss Garrett entertained with “Sonata for piano in G minor” (Schumann) in five movements, and again she merited the loud applause which followed. Aliss Hausmann gave three 'cello solos, “Romance” (Schumann). “Rondino” (Beethoven - Ki'eisler) and “Altar Refrain” (Kriesler). Following an interval, other items were presented as follow Miss Garrett, pianoforte solos, “Etude” (PaganiniLiszt), “Toronto” (Saint-Scans). “The Little Musical Box”; Aliss Afartin, violin, “Concerto in D Alinor” (Alax Bruch) ; Air Hill, vocal solos, “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose,” “Earl Bristol’s Farewell” (Ledgey), and “Ataureen”; Aliss Hausmann, ’cello solos, “Harlequin” (Popper), “Coronach” (Barratt) ; Air Hill, vocal solos, “The Bracelet,” “The Alaiden’s Blush,” “Julia’s Flair,” “To Alisses Hausmann and Garrett, “Sonata for ’Cello and Piano, Ist Alovenient in A Alinor” (Greig). Aliss Garrett is a Fellow of Trinity College, and a member of the British Afusic Society; Aliss Hausmann is a pupil of Claude Tanner, New Zealand’s foremost ’cellist, and is a member of the AVellington Symphony Orchestra, and has played under the distinguished baton of Dr Alalcolm Sergeant; Aliss Alartin is a violinist of high repute who, after winning an exhibition in New Zealand, made a trip abroad to further her studies with conspicuous success; Air Hill has just returned to New Zealand from a successful tour of Australia, where ho was under engagement to the Australian Broadcasting Commission. He is leader of the song group of the Wellington branch of the British Alusic Society.
