TRENTHAM SCHOLARSHIPS.
NO FURTHER AWARDS. Per Press Associatoin. WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. It was announced at the annual meeting of the Trentham Scholarship Fund executive that the assets of the fund were now only sufficient to meet the liabilities already incurred under the bursaries and, therefore, no further applications would be invited. The report for the year stated that applications for 351 bursaries had been received as compared with 456 the previous year; 41 had been declined. The average award had been £l4 8s lOd. Since these awards had been made 34 had been cancelled, representing £312. Since the inception of the fund £64,021 17s had been paid to bursars; 3564 bursaries had been awarded, affecting 1381 children. On an average each child had benefited to the extent of £46 7s 2d. The excess of income over expenditure for the year was £3299 16s, and the assets now amounted to £3286 13s 6d. The retiring members of the executive, Dr. E. Marsden, Major L. C. Forgie, Mr W. Appleton, and Mr G. A. Troup, were re-elected.
