FROM TRACK AND STABLE.

HORSES IN FORM. (By “Spectator.”) Lapel will bo ridden at Otaki by R. W. Savage. Autopay’s first foal, a bay filly from a Lucullus mare, made its apeparanco at Trentham last week. On his return to Wellington from Sydney Omarere joined I'. R. George’s stable at Trentham. Following her impressive success on the second day of, the Avondale meeting Lagoon will bo in demand for the Taumarunui Cup. The form of Gay Flier at Taranaki points to the Gay Shield three-year-old making amends early in the present term. Ho is entered for the Trial Handicap at Paeroa. Silver Brier has demonstrated in the past, her partiality for the Paeroa, course, and as she will bo all tho better for the racing she had at Avondale she will not be without a following in tho Taumarunui Cup. One of the ruling favourites for the Taumarunui Cup is the Whirlwind gelding Mazir, who was narrowly beaten by Velocipede in the Avondale Cup. Mazir appeared a trifle unlucky on that occasion as he was galloping over everything at the end. An unfortunate injury to a knee while exercising in a pa-ddock has put Friesland aside, and 0. Cox belieyeß it will be Christmas before the Friarsdale gelding will be ready to race. Glenthawn has started solid tasks again in view of racing at Waverley, where she promises to be in good order. She has almost completely recovered from her recent indisposition. Viking, the star track performer at Wingatui, has been awarded 8.11 in the October Handicap at the Dunedin meeting. Hitherto, Viking has raced among the sprinters, but he is to bo tried over middle distances this season. Ho is easily the best of the progeny of the Englishbred mare Anthem to date. Sardius did not race up to expectations at Wanganui, but he made amends by scoring at Napier Park. The field ho defeated was not strong, but he won decisively and may prove useful in spite of the fact that ho does not possess a great deal of 6ize. Sardius is a brown gelding by Tractor from Sweet Sue. Considering that it was her first race of the season, Fulojoy made a very satisfactory showing when sho finished third behind the dead-heaters. Laughing Lass and Hunting Lodge, in the Railway Handicap at Marton. The run may do her good and sho may display improvement at her next attempt, which will probably be at Otaki on Saturday. The fact that Roxy figures as an acceptor for the Taumarunui Cup at Paeroa on Saturday, and has also been nominated for the spring meeting at Ellerslio, indicates that ho has made a good recovery from tho injury that put him out of action during tho winter. Although lie was very wayward at one stage, Roxy has developed into a capablo jumper and will require only to return to form to make his presence felt in steeplechase events ahead. Gadger, a candidate for the Trial Handicap at Paeroa, is a five-year-old gelding by Matinee from a Potoa mare. He has not had a great deal of racing and had only three starts last season, when his best effort was to finish second to Respectful in the Waioeka Hack Handicap, one mile, at tho Opotiki meeting at Tauranga. Among those he beat were Racemosus, Huskie, Leo Colossus, and Cyllaros. Golden Ridge, who gave such promise when ho began racing last season that ho soon found a new owner, w r as subsequently a little disappointing to form followers. However, he beat everything except De Friend at Trentham in July, and on that showing he should be a hard horse to beat in the maiden race at Otaki. Person is going on the right way in his training, and at Now Plymouth on Saturday the Mitchelson Cup candidate was worked the reverse way over a mile and three furlongs. lie went at strong half-pace for the first part, but came home fast over the last half-mile with Eagle’s Eye. Tho Verbius gelding is in fine order. Among the mares at Mr H. E. Morriss’s Banstead Manor Stud, England, is Phar Lap's sister, Te Uira,. who was specially purchased for the stud last year. Te Uira is said to be in foal to Colorado Kid, who is by Colorado from Spearmint’s daughter, Baby Polly, and was a very successful racehorse a few years ago. As Mr Morriss owns the stallions Manna and TaiYang, To Uira should not lack for opportunities as a brood mare. Mungacre ran well enough in the hack sprint at Avondale on tho second day to suggest that he should take a hand ih the decision of tho sprint at Paeroa on Saturday. With 9.5 at Avondale he sot the pace from the barrier rise and it was only in the last few strides that he surrendered to Paso Robles, whom lie was conceding 241 b. With 7.11 at Paeroa Mungacro appeals as a good prospect.
