FOOTBALLER’S BURIAL
GATHERING OF TRIBES. TRIBUTES TO MAORI PLAYER. ROTORUA, Sept. 29. The body of the late Bernard Edward Rogers, the well-known Rotorua Rugby football player, whose death occurred at Palmerston North last
Wednesday, was brought to Rotorua on Saturday. The "coffin was accompanied by Mr Kingl Tahiwi, manager of the New Zealand Maori team, and by Mr Ned Parata, chairman of the Maori selection committee. It was met at the railway station by a large and representative assembly of members of the Arawa tribe, headed by Mr H. Tai Mitchell, and by representatives of the Rotorua Rugby Sub-Union. The oodv was taken to Ohinemutu, where it lay in state at the Tamato-
kapua meeting house. On Sunday representatives from a large number of visiting tribes paid their respects, the tangi being one of the largest held at Ohinemutu for some time. A large contingent of visiting natives from the East Coast tribes, with which the deceased was associated, attended the tangi, and representatives of various sports bodies with which he was connected also paid their respects. The funeral took place yesterday at Ohinemutu.
