NEW DESIGNS IN AIR PORTS.—OnIy a few years ago the lending places of aircraft were little more than bare, flat fields, with perhaps a shed to house the 'plane. To-day, at the terminals of the world's great air lines, there are large and elaborate buildings, often unlike any other, but designed for their purpose just as a railway station is designed. (I) The "departure platform for overseas passengers at Croydon England (2) London’s new airport at Catwick, terminal of the cross-Channel air services. (3) Modern hangar on Roosevelt Field, New York, a tasteful combination of the oldest and newest of arts-archileciure and aviation. (4) signal tower and Customs and other buildings at Tempelhof, Berlin. There is a roof restaurant for people wishing to watch the arrival and departure of planes.
