PAHIATUA, Sept. 15. Mr S. Freeman, who has been the fields instructor for the Department of Agriculture in the AA’airarapa for eight years, was tendered a farewell gathering this afternoon. There was a good attendance of farmers and members of the Young Farmers’ Clubs. Mr E. S. Heckler, president of the Pahiatua branch of the Farmers’ Union, said that although Mr Freeman had been promoted to be the organising secretary of the Young Farmers’ Clubs his departure was a loss to the district. In a letter expressing his regret at being unable to attend, the secretary of the Pahiatua branch (Mr J. A. AA’alsh) stated: “Mr Freeman is an excellent officer to work' with, and his bright, breezy and genial nature has won for him many friends in the district. I personally regret his departure and can only conclude by wishing him the highest success in his new undertaking.” Mr Bremner presented Mr Freeman with an inkwell and stand as a token of esteem and appreciation. A number of other speakers, including three from the Young Farmers’ Clubs, voiced their regret at Mr Freeman’s departure and their good wishes for his future success.

A valedictory gathering was tendered Air C. Jrving at the Mangatainoka hall last evening, there being representatives present from every spoiling body with which Mr Irving has been associated. The speakers were representatives of the Mangatainoka Football Club, the Pahiatua Racing Club, the Horse Sports Club and the Pahiatua Cricket Club. The guest of the evening was presented with a smoker’s stand, a case of pipes and a cabinet of cigarettes. Miss R. Shekleton presided at a meeting of the conpnittee of the Pahiatua Ladies’ Golf Club,* last evening. The programme for the rest of the season was arranged. Air and Airs J. Aloore, who have been residents in the Ngaturi district for the past few years, are now re* siding at Kohinui.
