HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. TALLOW QUIET. The Department of Agriculture has received Ihe following cablegram, dated September 12, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: Tallow.—Market quiet. Moderate business lias been done in mutton, fine, on spot at slightly easier prices. Hemp.—Manila market strong, with j improved demand; prices have advanc-i ed. September-November shipment sold up to £2O 10s. Sisal market firm and steady. September-November shipment sold £27; December-March shipment, £27 ss. New Zealand market quiet; nominally unchanged; no first-hand Bales reported. Eggs.—Market firm, but trade slow on account of higher prices. English national pack, 13s to 18s Gd; ordinary pack, los to lGs. Danish, 10s 7£d to 13s 3d. FRUIT SEASON DISAPPOINTING. Fruit. —Final stocks cleared at late rates. Season has been very unsatisfactory ; the demand for apples weak and out of proportion to supplies since November, with prices declining consistently over the last three months. Pears have been somewhat better. Trade nonplussed to account for consistent weakness in apple market, but combination of circumstances, including Coronation, induce them to be more optimistic regarding new season.
