LIVED 106 YEARS.

FORMER NEAV ZEALAND AVHALER. Two hundred miles south-west of San Francisco, near Tulare, in the midst of a rich grape-growing country, August Dias, said to he 106 years of age, passed away at the home of relatives, in July. Dias was one of the most interesting characters in Central California, for he went to sea at the age of fourteen and for several years was a whaler in New Zealand. Later lie migrated from New Zealand to California, going to the State during the historic gold rush in 1849. Friends said he had lived in the Golden State virtually all the time since that date, most of the time residing in the city of Stockton. He was a native of the Azores Island;
