WIN FOR BUSH TEAM.
MATCH WITH WANGANUI. Heavy rain fell in the course of tlie Bush-YVanganui representative Rugby match at Pahiatua yesterday. The liome team won by 9 ]>oints to 5. The tollowing were tho teams: Wianganui (blue). —Welsh; Burgess, Barton, Jones; Thompson, Chase; Hunter; W. Thompson, Reynolds, McGregor, Hutchinson, Davidson, Firmiii, James, Bockctt (ca.pt.). Bush (maroon and Cambridge blue). —Olivant; Bye, Rhklell, H. Wolland; S. Wolland, Twentyman; Lett; Waters, Spring, Verry, Fallover, Harvey. Burns, Comber, Mahoney (capt.). tsoon after the commencement Bush reached the Wanganui twenty-five line, Burns and Comber being prominent. Lett lost the ball in attempting to dash over the line and Wanganui forced. Twentyman scored a short time later, but failed with his own kick at goal. The home team had the better of the ensuing play, but a free kick by Twentyman fell short. Wanganui took the ball to their opponents' goal-line, hut Bush cleared, following a scrum. Fallover made a good thrust and transferred to H. Wolland, who was tackled effectively bv Welsh at the Wanganui twenty-five line. Barton was instrumental in returning play to the Bush team's territory. Half-time followed.
Exchanges of kicks marked the opening of the second spell, and Bush took play to the Wanganui twenty-five. A free kick was awarded Bush and Olivant took the ball, hut it lell short and Wanganui penetrated well into Bush territory. Tt appeared for a time that the visitors would score. _ The play was taken dowufield and Olivant, the'Bush full-back, made a strong run and went over for a nice try. Twentynia.n failed to convert. Again Bush pressed hard and after a series of passes Failover scored. The attempt at conversion failed. With onlv ten min utes to go Wanganui tried hard to break down Bush’s defence. Chase succeeded in scoring and Welsh converted with an excellent kick. Again the ball was taken to the Wanganui twenty-five and Twentyman made a promising run, but Welsh tackled him well. The final score was: Bush b, Wanganui 5. The referee was Mr J. Fulton. i’lie curtain-raiser was between the Ngaturi and Hukanni junior teams, the former winning l»v 11 points to 6.
