HOURS AND WAGES. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 15. The sitting of the Conciliation Council in the Dominion engineering anti allied trades dispute was commenced to-day. Most of the day was occupied in considering the list of firms to be cited, and discussion of the claims was commenced only late in the afternoon. Although the employers agreed with the principle of a dCbliout week, the employers’ assessors pointed out that they considered exceptions were necessary in some cases.. The applicants are the" New Zealand Federated Ironmasters’ Association and other employers and the respondents the New Zealand Council of the Amalgamated Engineering and Allied Trades Industrial Association of New Zealand, the Federated Boilermakers. Iron and Steel Ship and Bridge Builders’ Industrial Association, the New Zealand Federated Moulders’ Industrial Association and other unions. The Commissioner (Mr S. Ritchie) presided. The employers claimed a 4J-honr five and a -naif day week and offered the following' wage's:—Patternmakers 2s 2d. toolmakers 2s Id, moulders 2s to Is Pd, engineers 2s to Is lOd, boilermakers 2s; hoys under 21, fi.st year 17s fid per week, second year 255, third year 32s Cd. fourth year 40s, fifth year dOs; improvers, Is lOd. per hour; females. first year 15s a week, second war 20s, third year 255, fourth year 30s. fifth year 355. 1 hereafter 425. The workers counter-claimed for a 40-hour, five-day week and a minimum rale of £5 10s -per week for all workers, with certain exceptions.
