BETTING PLUNGE.

ONEWIIETU IN CAULFIELD CUP. I-lOHSE iUA V NOT HUN. Per Press Association. HAWEKA, July 15. According to an Australian report the IJawera horse Onewhotu has featured in cue of the most sensational betting plunges in recent times. This is in connection with tho Coulilield Cup run on October 17. It is stated in tho Australian report that commissions reminiscent of the boom days involvo sums of thousands in doubles. Onewhetu is handicapped at 8.7 in the Metropolitan and 7.8 in tho Caulfield and apparently is fancied because of his staying record in New Zealand. Interviewed concerning this report J. Fryer, trainer of Oncwhetu, says he is at a loss to account far the hacking of the horse which, ho states, did not originatp with him or the owner, Mr J. ICiley, who does not bet in a big way. “Whoever launched tho commission is foolish,” commented Fryer, “for there is no certainty that Onewhetu will be taken to Australia. I would not care to take him unless I had another horse to necompmy him and at present that docs not se.etn likely.”

An Australian writer says: One of tlic most remarkable early spring plunges in recent yoars indicates definitely that the missiiii in Australia of the New Zealand stayer Coewhetu will be the Caulfield Cup. A commission, reminiscent of 20 years ago, when owners and trainers supported their horses for tens of thousands immediately spring weights were declared, began and was continued later.
