OBITUARY

MR G. SIEVERS. The passing of Mr George Sievers, father of Mrs J. E. Oakley, of Palmerston North, which occurred at his residence, Bartholomew Road. Levin, on Monday afternoon, after a short illness, removed one of the district’s oldest residents, and a pioneer ol the Wairarapa district. Mr Sievers, who was 78 years of age, was horn in Wellington, the. son of the late Mr and Mrs William Sievers. The earlier years of his life were spent in Wellington, where he married, some 53 years ago, Miss Sarah Monaghan. Taking up land at Tu rata hi, he spent thirty years in farming pursuits in the Wairarapa, eventually going to Levin' twenty years ago to occupy a farm on Kawiu Road West. This property he worked for only a few years before going into retirement at his home in Bartholomew Road. Mr Sievers maintained an active interest in all farming pursuits, and was a member of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a family of three sons. Messrs Lewis (Martinborough), Sydney (Feilding) and Terence Sievers (Levin) and three daughters, Mrs Soler (Taumarunui). Mrs J. If. Oakley, iyul Miss Mildred Sievers (at present in England).
