TRAGIC DEATH. KAIKOHE. July 13.' With* a gunshot wound in the forehead and a double-barrelled shotgun about nine loot away, the body of Jlr Joseph Ogle Ferguson, a AVaihou Valley tanner, was found on Sunday m a lonely spot at the hack of his 600acre property. The circumstances point to accidental death. Air Ferguson, who was a single man, aged 32, lived alone, and consequently his movements were not known, hut it is thought lie was climbing through a fence when the accident occurred, it is believed he left his home to ride over his property on or about Jnlv 8. This date was ascertained hv the fact that newspapers had been delivered to him, but not collected. POLICE PUSH TO SCENE. The body was found at 9.30 on Sundav morning by Mr George Bailey Carter, a farmer, of Marangai, who immediately informed the police stationed at the late Mr Nelson’s house, i Inspector O’Hara, Detective March, Sergeant Finch, and Constable D. ; Rolrertsnn proceeded to the locality immediately. ' Both cartridges had been discharged when the gun was found. A resident reported lie heard two distinct reports on Friday, hut the police are making inquiries to check the movements of Mr Ferguson. The inquest was opened before the District Coroner, Mr J. T. V. Dunlop, and after evidence of identification was given it was adjourned sine die.
