LINTON

At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute Mrs T. Lynch presided oier a large attendance of members to which was extended a hearty welcome. The motto was “Be content to be a tump it you cannot be a star.” ill's Lynch introduced Mrs Davies of llawkes Bay, who gave au interesting talk on the Maori . Institute work at Hawke’s Bay of which she is president. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mosdames A. Batchelor, B. Moody 7, and K. Moody. A roll call of household hints revealed many amusing and useful hints. A number of the local institute members attended the group rally at Shannon. The competitions resulted as follows: —Gelatine sweet dish: Mrs .1. Lynch 1, Mrs L. Craw 2. Bag from old motor tubes: Mrs Copeland 1, Mrs L. Craw 2. Several visitors were present among whom was Mrs Algie, a new resident of Linton.
The annual meeting of St. Columba’s Anglic; it Church was held in the Parish Hall on Friday afternoon. Rev. Canon Woodward (vicar) and Rev. F. 0. Ball were present. The vicar opened the meeting with prayer. The church has ro-
cently boon renovated and this leaves a debt on the building which the local parishioners hope to clear in the near future. At the close of the meeting afternoon tea was served by (lie ladies present, after which Mr J. Batclrclar 'asked Mr Bull to accept a gift of a set of carvers with best wishes for his future happiness. Mr Ball briefly acl i tow'cdgcd the gift. Mrs-JD. Currin was a week-end visitor to Wellington. Miss Audrey Russell, of Wanganui Girls’ College, spent .the weekend with her parents in Linton.
