REQUEST FOR GRANT
DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, July 14. Requests for the restoration of the former Government grant of £IOO a year and for an amendment to tile Family Allowances Act to enable deserted wives to receive payments under the Act without the signature of their husbands were placed before the Mblister, of Health (Hon. P. Fraser) by a deputation from the Society lor the Protection of Women and Children, which waited on him to-day. The Minister promised sympathetic consideration to the request for the restoration of the grant. . He stated that the Minister of Internal Affairs, under whose department the matter came, was taking action in regard to the payment of family allowances.
