SALE OF ANTIQUES
HUGE CROWD ATTENDS. Dealers in antiques from all over New Zealand were in attendance, among a crowd estimated at over 2000, at the auction sale, yesterday, of the furniture, works of art and effects of the late Mrs Katherine Wilson, of Ferguson Street. Keen competition was evident for many pieces of furniture and the prices paid were recognised by experts to he up to the full value. Among the more outstanding sales were those of a set of five Chippendale chairs at £B2 10s, an inlaid mahogany tabic at £2O. a ’mahogany Victorian chair at £7 7s, a mahogany dining table at £l2, carpets from £lO to £ls each, and_upholstered chairs from £3 3s to £5 5s each. A Kelly dinner servieo (early china) realised £0 6s, a set of brass candle clusters £3 15s, and early Doultou ware sold at prices ranging from a guinea to two guineas a piece. Pictures and books found a really good demand and practically every item for sale was disposed of. A feature of the sale which was pleasing to many was that at least half of tho sales were made to local buyers, even though there was a good attendance from other districts.
The disposial of a Metallurgique motor car, 27 years old, attracted much interest. The price paid was £5.
