The deaths throughout Ontario in the worst six-day heat wave in the province’s history mounted to 000 to-day. including 150 drowni'ngs. Toronto undertakers are using old equipment, and additional grave diggers with hearses have been Drought in irbm near-by towns.

The Provincial Agriculture Department announced that the heat damage in the garden industry, including the Niagara grape belt, will total millions of dollars. Winnipeg reports that a new all-time heat record for Manitoba was set up at Emerson with 112 degrees. Rain brought respite to crops in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

Relief front America’s devastating heat spell, which in 10 days has taken toll of 890 lives, appeared in the Ear AVest to-day wheii rain caused the temperatures to drop from 100 degrees to 40. The- rain, sweeping in from the Rockies was, however, draining ineffectively off the drought-denuded land, which offered little resistance to wasteful outflow.

The heat persisted from Mississippi to the Atlantic, but was relieved by showers in many eastern States.
