AN IMMENSE COST.
NEW YORK, July 12
Mr John Gebhart, director of the National Economy League, asserted today in a published statement that it had cost 11,750.000,C00 dollars more to run the American Government during tho past siy fiscal years than in the first 127 years of the existence of the republic. The figures were 37, *50,000,000 dollars for tho six years prior to June 30, 1936, the 26,000,000,000 dollars from 1789 to 1916. ’ Mr Gebhart said that Mr Herbert Hoover was. responsible for a “sizoablo amount of tho deficit,” but the New Deal for the bulk of it. Meanwhile a Government report made public to-day showed that the national income for 1933 was 52,595,000,000 dollars and the income paid out was 53,587,000,000 dollars.
