DOMINION FLOCKS.

A COMPARISON

Interim returns of tlie sheep population for 1936 (issued lust week) compare as follow with final returns since 1930, the peak year:— N. Island S. Island 'total

The export of niutton and lamb from New Zealand for the year ended April 30, with the 1935 figures in parentheses, was as follows:—Mutton carcases, 1,850,166 (2,189,300); legs and pieces, 225 cwt (2501) ; lamb carcases, 8,234,060 (9,316,873).

The comparison of the export figures is not entirely satisfactory, as the date taken, April 30, is in the middle of the export year. As it happened there was a shortage of sheep and lambs for export during the early months of the calendar year, 1936., The fall in exports is not so drastic when comparison* is made between the periods from October 1 to June 15 in the 1934-35 and 1P35-36 export seasons. The respective figures are as follow's:—

1934-35 1935-36 Mutton (carcases) ... 1.440,096 1,282,950 Lamb (carcases) 6,980,970 6,245,152
