i- (From Our Own Correspondent.) c j WAITCXA WEST, July 10. On Wednesday evening, at the Waitunt West Hall, tlio hall directors held an old ' time dance in aid of the hall funds. Ir " spile of the wet night there was a splendid • attendance. Music was supplied by an orf ehostra, extras being played by Miss M. LLie,-to and Mr Feeny. Mr X. V. Shannon 3 acted as M.C. The Monte Carlo chain ’ waltz was won by Air Slnvass (Chcltcnt ham) and Miss J. Logan, and the Lucky , Cay Cordons by Mr Wait and partner and Mit-s Anderson and partner. WilliamsonL Aliss E. Shannon presided. There was a small attendance owing to the day being wet, and to sickness. Miss Guylec took over temporarily the position of secretary in the absence of Airs Aleads, who was unable to attend. After the business had been discussed, Aliss Guvlce gave a demonstration on smocking, all being very interested. A competition, provided hv Aliss Shannon, was won by Aliss Lucas. The competition for coconut ice was won by Airs T. 1). Stokes. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alesdames Lucas. Browning. Halford and Misses Lucas (2). Xcxt month the competitions will he for the best dressed sixpenny kewpie doll and the prettiest necklace of heads, articles from both competitions to be donated towards the Christmas tree. A roll call for August, a savoury recipe, will hr- held. '1 he hostesses will he Mi-edames K. Xorthcott, X. Xorthcott, I-. Aleads.-and AI vs Aleads. The meeting closed with votes ol thanks 1o the hostesses, doin'utrator and the chair. Air and Mrs Smith, of Levin, who have been the guests of Air and Alts T. Tuohy, left on Thursday for Whangaroa. Air and Airs J. 11. Williamson, Air and Mrs X. j. Short and Air and Aim H. Younger are oil a short holiday at Tongariro Xational Park. The friends' of Aliss Xancy Pearce, who has been ill, will he pleased to hoar that she is now making a rapid recovery. Airs W. Halford, of Rangiwahia. is the guest of Airs P. 11. Halford. Waituna.
