FALL FROM BICYCLE.
CONSTABLE’S DEATH. CORONER’S INQUEST. “It is a very extraordinary case,” said the Coroner (Mr A. J. Graham) in giving his verdict at the inquest, this morning, on Constable Ernest George Sutherland, who fell from his bicycle at the intersection of Feathersto'n a.nd Pirie Streets on Wednesday morning. The Coroner’s verdict was that deceased died from a dislocated peck through falling from a bicycle. Dr. Hunter Will gave evidence that he conducted ia post-mortem examination of the body of?deceased. He had been called to the scene of the accident at about 9.45 a.m. Ho found a.n abrasion on the right side of the temporal region of the head. There was a contusion on the upper end of the spinal cord. The cause of death was a dislocated neck.
Reginald Hamilton Knowles motor driver, said ho saw deceased fall from his cj’cle. It appeared to him that he fell over the handlebars on to his head and face. Witness rendered assistance. Deceased was unconscious and breathing unnaturally. The bag deceased was carrying evidently got caught between his knee and the handlebars, tlnis. causing him to fall.
Constable A. J. Goodwin gave evidence of identification. Deceased had been in Palmerston North for about nine months and was (always careful in his movements.
The Coroner gave his verdict as slated above.
