FLEMINGTON STEEPLECHASE. WON BY MAIDEN JUMPER. MELBOURNE, July 12. Tho distinction of being the first maiden jumper to win the Grand National Steeplechase was gained by Santa Casa in a wonderful performance at Elcmington. Santa Casa, who was taught, the rudiments of his jumping skill in the hunting field, won in magnificent style by half a length from Draconic, the result being in doubt until the last 100 yards. Results included DOUTTA GALLA HURDLE RACE. POOLEY BRIDGE, 12.0 (Ilcalv) .. 1 COLD SPRING, 9.11 (Foley) ... 2 LOYOLA, 9.0 (Mclnncs) 3 Also started: King Colossus and Cape Race. Two lengths anti a half; eight lengths. GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE.
About three miles and one furlong. SANTA CASA, 9.6 (Regan) DRACONIC, 10.8 (Fullnrton) WOODLAGE, 10.3 (Annsden) ...
Scratched: Fulham. The winner was well back in the early stages of the race, whereas Draconic was always prominent. IVith less than a mile to go Draconic led Santa Casa by 20 lengths, which had been decreased to six lengths at the last jump. In the run to tho judge Santa Casa simply worried Draconic out of the prize. Woodlacc, Itiawena, and Mcmbo, at wide intervals and in that order, were the only others to complete the course. Won by half a length; 15 lengths between second and third. Time, t>.27j). Te Iluon was third in the July Handicap, in which Araunah and Palatinate were unplaced. MOOREFIELD RACES. SYDNEY, July 12. At the Moorefield races Royal Helena and Jubilee Singer were unplaced in tho Juvenile Handicap and Maestro was unplaced in the Moorefield Handicap.
