A minstrel ari (I variety entertainment staged by a company of local artists played to a capacity house at the Town Tall on Tuesday evening: The performance, which wats Isold lo raise funds for the benefit of the school, proved to bo an unqualified tsuecccis and the lunds should benefit by a considerable amount. Despite the very wintry conditions prevailing on Tuesday afternoon last there was a satisfactory attendance at the monthly social of All Saints’ Ladies’ Guild. The winners of competitions were .\Jesdamos Cecil Robinson, H. Robinson, L. C. Bryant, \Y. IC. Barber, K. C. Rallies and C. 11. Symons. The hod esses were Mcsdarncs K. \V. Thane, F. S. Kaston. F. A. Mason. W. M. Thomas, R .Fasten, S. Atts--1 in, Nockles, K. J. .Murphy, and Miss Thomas. The Foxton B basketball team was defeated by the Te Kawau B team on the Rongotea haskctba'll grounds yesterday afternoon, the final score being 11—5. FOXTON, July 10. While returning to Foxton on a cycle, after visiting her parents in No. 2 Line, on Thursday evening, li? s !' M. Fitt. met with a painful aoklent. As she was cycling along the road she collided with a wandering horse and was thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining an injury to the shoulder. The silver jubilee of the local Brigitline Convent was fittingly celebrated on rlhumday. The following clergy wore in attendance and took part in the earlier service: Very Rev. In the evening clergy. nuns, parishioners, pupiks of the Convent and townspeople were, present qt a social gathering which crowded the schoolroom. Mr M. B. Bergin presided and extended a welcome to those present, who had come to rejoice with the Sisters in the celebration of tile silver jubilee of their activities in Foxton. Father Rohan, in acknowledging the gifts on behalf of the nuns, and the kindly expressions which accompanied them, said lie had pleasure in joining his congratulations to those of the previous speakers. IJe hoped the present, happy relations and willing co-opera-tion with the Convent would continue. Rev Father Brennan, late parish priest, gave a brief outline of the activities of the order.
