A MERE BLUFFER

ITALIAN ON MUSSOLINI. “ARMY DOES NOT LOVE HIM.” (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. ) Received Julv 11, 1.15 p.m. LONDON, July 10. I’lie special Rome correspondent of the Manchester Guardian interviewed a high Italian army officer, who outspokenly ascribed the Italian success in Abyssinia to Marshal Badoglio’s strategy after the battle of Amba Aradam. In suddenly shooting out the Army Corps to the right and rear of Ras Seyoum and Has Kassa, he made the Abyssinians realise that guerilla tactics would prove a trap for themselves. The officer added: Mussolini is a mere bluffer. If the war had been left to him the Italians would still be at Makale. The campaign had a great military leader in Badoglio and a diplomatic fool in Mussolini. Everyone in Italy realises that the Black Shirts, a mass of good-for-nothings, were useless in Abyssinia. The real heroes were the Alpini regiments. The army does not love Mussolini, whose tactics are to belittle its achievements and those of Badoglio.
