SUNDAY CONCERT.
BY GARRISON BAND. Last evening, the Palmerston North Garrison Band staged a very enjoyable concert in the State Theatre to a capacity house. Though reluctant to do so, the door officials were again compelled to turn over one hundred away. The programme included entertainers new to Palmerston North, among whom were the Glee Singers, a troupe of ladies from Hawke’s Bay, who made the journey to Palmerston North at their own expense to assist the band. The items they rendered were of a very high standard and were much appreciated. It was unfortunate that, owing to a severe cold, Miss Zeta Loamy was unable to atttend in her capacity as accompanistc. The programme was as follows: — Glee Singers, vocal items; Doris and Harvey Bensel, instrumental numbers ; Hector McLean and Undo Lon of 2ZO, elocutionary items; Mr S-. Toon and Mrs . L. Smith, popular songs; Mr C. Shirriffs, vocal solos; Mr A. Sundborn and'Hector Burke, instrumental duets. Gedson’s Aces rendered popular numbers. A feature of the concert was the greatly improved performance of the band. Comment was passed in many instances on its rendering of “Slavonic Rhapsody No. 1,” which was splendidly presented. At the conclusion of the programme the prescient of i ;ie band (Mr. J A. Nash) thanked patrons for their support and expressed his appreciation to all those artists who had contributed to the success of the function. Mr Nash announced that the band had received a. written request to present “The Volunteer Organist” cr the “Lost Chord,” which they would do at their next concert early ill August.
