PERSONAL.
It is understood that Mr C. J. McKenzie, under-secretary for Public Works, is retiring from his position on medical advice. Mr W. J. Croucher, who has been a very active figure in farming in the Manawatu, and has been a pioneer in the development of the pig industry, was taken completely by surprise at a function where he was presiding, last evening, when he was accorded musical honours and asked to accept a large leather suitcase and travelling rug in appreciation of his services. The presentation was made by Mr G. P. MeMeekan, B. Agric. Sc., of Massey College, who said that for years Mr Croucher had been an enthusiast and untiring in his efforts at all times to assist those in need of advice. He had been a pioneer in the industry. He had done monumental work, and perhaps the presentation would be of some use to Mr Croucher during his coming visit to Suva. Conveying his thanks, Mr Croucher said that he valued more than anything else the friendships he had made among the pig breeders.
