RURAL RAKINGS. A price which is considered to l»e a record for the Matamata district, £GG, was paid for a draught mare at a clearing sale. Several other draught horses realised from £47 to £SO. _ The small rainfall has enabled a substantial extension of the wheat-grow-ing programme to be undertaken, but it is still doubtful if the area will be up to that of last season, says the Christchurch Pres 6. The best information available suggests that there will not be much difference. Southdown flock ewes, to the number of 100, have l>een purchased in Canterbury within the last few days for shipment to Japan, says an exchange. A number of Tty el and ewes have also been purchased for the same destination. The shipment is the first on record of either breed of sheep to be made from Nefv Zealand to Japan.
