COLYTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) COLYTON, July 1. The Colyton branch of the Plunkot Society held a street stall in Feilding on Friday,. Mesdamcs W. W. Shortall and N. \V. Pearce, assisted- by a band of helpers, being in charge. As a result of. their efforts, the fund will benefit to the extent of approximately £B. A general meeting of settlers was called last week for tho purpose of electing a board of control for tho Colyton Hall. The attendance was d sappointing; in addition to the existing hall committee only cue settler attended. Tho secretary (Mr J. K. Yiles) stated that circulars had ben sent out setting out the objects of the meeting, which were to elect a committee and to receive the report on the property. The chairman (Air H. W. Shepherd) said that the apathy of tho settlers was much regretted. It was decided that the exist ng committee, Alessrs 11. W. Shepherd (chairman), J. K. Vilos (secretary), N. W. Pearce, T. Wales rnd J. Williamson continue to act in that capacity. The matter of a district ball was discussed and it was deeded to confer with the other social bodies of the district before arranging a date. The fortnightly dance was held in Mr Walker’s shed at Aratika. Held under the auspices of the Tennis Club for tho purpose of raising funds to build a new pavilion, the event received excellent patronage, both from local residents and from visitors from surrounding districts, and the dancing space was taxed to its capacity. Alusic was rendered by Air A. Ilydc, of Bui mythorpe, and a number of novolty dances were featured. The ladies of the club were responsible for the supper arrangements, and Mr C. Wilson, the club’s captain, carried out tho duties of M.C. Thanks were expressed to All- and Airs Walker for their hospitality. Mr W. E. ’Parker, “Totara Hill,” returned during tho wcek-n id after a - three weeks’ holiday spent at Christchurch, Timuru and Kaikoura.
