WRECK OF THE STANFORD. POUNDED BY SEAS. THE CAPTAIN’S VERSION. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Beceived June 27. 10.55 a.m. PERTH, June 27. . A graphic story of the wreck of the Stanford, which struck a reef, was given by Captain Becli, who has arrived at Fremantle by the Kooiinda with the other members of the crew and tile passengers. Captain J3ech said the Stanford went on the reef at 9.40 on Wednesday night. Heavy rain was falling unci there was a dense haze obscuring the Point Moore lighthouse. The sea was rough and efforts to move Ere ship astern failed. Every now. and again she was lifted up and smashed down on the reef. All hands were called on deck and the lifeboats were prepared. “After four hours’ anxious waiting on the ship, which might have crumpled beneath us, the Kooiinda arrived. One boat rowed off from the Stanford and another from the Kooiinda,” said the captain. Captan Becli was the last to leave. He took the ship’s papers, the ship’s cat, and three kittens, but everything else was lost. He expressed the opinion that the Stanford would become a total wreck.
