HIGHER CUSTOMS REVENUE. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, June 16. Exchequer returns show- that total ordinary revenue, excluding self-bal-ancing items, amounts to £101,066« 514, as compared with £109,913,827 at the corresponding date of last year. The increase of overseas trade revealed in the figures for May published yesterday is reflected in the yield of Customs duties which, at £49,998,000, exceeds the total for the same period of last financial year by nearly £1,500,000.
iotai ordinary expenditure, exclusive of self-balancing items, is £167,661,669 compared with £164.384,336 at the corresponding date of 1935.
OVERSEAS TRADE. HIGH LEVEL OF IMPORTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jcue jfi The high level of imports, which show an increase on May of last year of £4,650,000 equal to 7.2 per cent., is an outstanding feature of the overseas trade returns for the past month. This increase in imports was almost equally divided between food, raw materials and manufactures.
The return also shows sign of improvement in the British export trade, especially in manufactured goods. Although the increase for the five months of the current year is only £2,265,000, or 1.3 per cent., the increase last month alone was £1,189,000, equal to 3-3 per cent. In the re-export trade the increase last month was equal to 1.3 per cent.
